children above age two, improving social skills, language skills and even school readiness.”

These high tech gadgets are now the perfect source for interactive learning and provide

education facilities. Whether it was the Chinese counting board the abacus or an iPad today, we

Making your iPad More Child-Friendly

With the iPads storming in the markets, children have become a victim of addiction. They use it for all kinds of reasons, for entertainment, playing games, killing time, watching cartoons and several other fun things that we as children have been doing outdoors at this age. Technology-oriented things have always been personal-favorite toys for the kids these days. However, they are not all amazing for them unless they have been tweaked that way.

Take these parenting advices to make your iPad more child-friendly before it’s too late:
  1. Guided Access: Make your iPad more parent-approved by limiting the access overall. You can do that by going to the Guided Access options in the Settings menu. This way you can limit access to, for example, simply opening one app in the entire menu, or for buying an in-app purchase. Set up 4 character password to begin with.
  2. Further Restrictions: If you are worried about the child using FaceTime or accessing any explicit content in the iTunes, or from installing any apps, you can set parental controls for everything. Simply think of a numerical code that is certainly not easy for your child to guess.
  3. Scheduling & rewarding: Since too much exposure to iPads is simply not a good idea, it is best to teach your child into being organized. Schedule time slots for the iPads usage and otherwise recommend some other physical playtime. You can also add in extra time as an incentive, for example, for finishing up the food, or keeping the toys in their places once played with. Once they do that, add in 30 minutes of iPads usage as a reward.
  4. Gestures: Sometimes children get confused with the multitasking gestures. To ensure that doesn’t happen, you can turn off the Multitasking Gestures from the Settings menu, under General.
Bonus Tip: Don’t let iPad do YOUR job as a parent, ever. Take some alone time out with your children, talk to them and teach them petty lessons every now and then. Parents still have a role to play, make sure you don’t forget that your child will always need you, technology or no technology.

Do Brain Games Really Make a Difference?

Many cognitive neuroscientists are asked this question a lot. Do brain games increase cognitive skills? Do these games help us being different from other? And the answer is a yes and a no! Games are engaging and addicting, we are hooked for hours with some and are bored playing with some that are not of our taste. Brain games are a bit different they trigger your cognitive skills and can manipulate stuffs according to the requirement.

What we know about increasing our skills is the word “training”. For brain training at targeting at a specific cognitive function one should specify games. For example, games such as crossword puzzles trigger your virtual imagination of what is coming next or what should be placed here to complete it up. The brain frontal lobe part does decision making judgment and planning, thus playing such games targets the specific area involved.

With this said I would like to state that according to a study, keeping yourself apart from technology just for 30 mins can be better for brain health. Our over use of Smartphone, laptops and tablets can deeply hurt our brain capabilities.

Our brain’s frontal lobe is our key to act remarkable in our future. Cognitive reserves and our future connection deeply is associated with our frontal lobe which connects other areas of brain. Our brain can do multitasking, can have different perspective, can think innovative in other words is just phenomenal.

So, I must say that instead of relying on specific “Brain Games” find the inner you. It is appreciable that people taking keen interest in enhancing their brain capabilities because this approach is tend to reshape world. I am not negating meaningful brain development apps but is trying to aware you about what is proven.

iPads vs Books: A Misconception Solved

Do iPad discourage skills, such as reading and writing? Do these gadgets impact concentration levels and attention spans on our little ones?

There are an ample amount of questions such as the ones mentioned above, why is there so confusion regarding technology and our lifestyle, why do we consider this as taboo when our little one starts using an iPad?

Well to answer these questions firstly we need to understand the fact that these gadgets are our savior, developed to cater our needs and to make our work easier not to increase our concerns.

iPad has its own trend, it propagates through masses with its sleek design and user friendly interface. This gadget took over instantly with its effects driven unanimously. Our kids are vulnerable to many stuffs, among those are iPad's flashy screen.

Debating over the use of iPad's and our little ones are not a new agenda. It is very important to keep an eye on what our children are doing and which traits our children are absorbing from their environment.

With its use, iPad becomes popular in children. By introducing interactive and addictive apps children are becoming addicted to iPad's. Within this time some new games with a mission and vision were introduced, these were the educational and learning games that were intended to educate preschoolers before their first step at school.

Considering how important these educational apps were, a number of parents downloaded these apps for enabling their children to learn the basics before their preliminary education. Home KG is considered as one of the most influential learning apps that educates preschoolers with the basics of English, maths and drawing. This app is widely popular among preschoolers because of its user friendly interface, colorful graphics and fun music.

Arguing over importance of books and taking over iPad is a false propaganda, what I believe is the significance of books with stands in every era, whether the most technological or vintage. Books will always be influential and used as a guideline for many of the developments ahead. Technological gadgets can never take-on books, this is because books are the origin and you cannot just ignore what has been the reason for your creation.

What to Consider while Choosing iPhone Apps for Your Toddler?

21st century is an era of advancement, innovation and technology overall. Today smart phones, latest gadgets and high tech devices have solely taken on the society with its effect upon everyone including the soft-targets, i.e. children.

In today’s world children are adapting the transformation of their surroundings more rapidly with the evolution of technology. This in response has turned out more challenging for the parents to filter out what to use and what not to.

Here are some tips while considering iPhone apps for your toddlers:

Apps that are exclusively designed for children are good to go as these educational apps are user friendly plus easy to use. Search apps wisely.

Use the app by yourself before you give it to your toddlers so that you have an idea what is following upon. It will also help you teach that app to your toddler and you can be a gatekeeper between your toddler and your iPhone/iPad's.

It has become much easier to choose the right apps for your little ones. You can read comments and reviews before you download an app so that you get a clear idea what this app is all about. You can also help others by simply commenting what you feel about this app. Was it easy to use? Did it fulfill your desires? Was it fun? And so on.

Studies have now proven that toddlers can count before they can talk. They also know which of the two quantities is larger and even do simple subtraction all before they go to school.

Avoid action games instead go for some learning apps as they can serve as a home tutor for your toddler and basics of English and mathematics are taught wisely. Prefer those apps which are fun and educational so that it doesn’t get boring.

Fun with education is the best combination to learn in. One of the best examples of educational apps is Home KG, it has everything from alphabets to numbers and shapes to drawings. This preschool app will nourish your little one’s academic capabilities and your toddler will find it highly engaging.
